Cascaded AWG 100-Channel WDM Rx-Type Photonic Integrated Circuit
This demo illustrates modeling of 100-channel WDM Rx-type photonic integrated circuit designed by BRIGHT Photonics BV design house and fabricated by InP photonics HHI foundry. Such a photonic integrated circuit consists of a cascade of 11 AWGs. The first fine 1x10 AWG with small channel spacing and channel bandwidth (but also small free spectral range) outputs 10 channels to each of its output waveguides. Then aditional 10 coarse 1x10 AWGs with large free spectral ranges select only a single channel for each of its output waveguides. As a result, we obtain 100-channel spectrometer. Since the channel spacing of the fine AWG is smaller than channel bandwidth, in practice there is a strong cross-coupling between neighboring channels, and only half of channels can be used for demultiplexing signals. Therefore, this photonic circuit can also be used as 50-channel demultiplexer.
