VPIphotonics announces the release of VPIlinkConfigurator Version 4.6, a versatile software tool for optical network engineering including automatic equipment placement and configuration and a thorough system-wide performance assessment. It supports equipment configuration and detailed performance calculation of complex networks including ROADMs and true ring topologies. A powerful API enables interfacing with third-party software such as common office applications and databases in addition to custom applications
Version 4.6 improves the network design workflow and provides new functionality that simplifies configuration of high bit rate traffic demands.
The support for new optical signal metrics and transmission-aware receiver thresholds improve QoT assessment.
The enhancements of 4.6 version simplify the handling of resource-demanding tasks such as large scale network designs that utilize flexgrid.

VPIlinkConfigurator of Version 4.6
New signal metrics allow to model accumulated polarization dependent loss
New receiver thresholds, such as accumulated PMD and PDL limits, permit estimation of quality of transmission line in accordance with MSA OpenROADM standard
Enhanced receiver estimation model allows to estimate required OSNR at the receiver side with respect to transmission aware impairments, such as accumulated CD, PMD, PDL and ROP
A list of transceivers based on OpenROADM specifications added to exemplary equipment library allows to model 100G-800G transmission lines and account for transmission-aware penalties at QoT assessment
Support for target power mode in EDF amplifier model, including as signal power so amplifier ASE and nonlinear noise at target value calculation
New Allocate Signal Rates tool assigns a required number of optical channels to a given cumulative traffic demand accounting for OSNR degradation and minimizing total channel bandwidth
New Set Nodes Coordinates tool allows to update topology graph layout according to coordinates specified via parameters of nodes
Enhanced Configure Transmission Media automatically calculates FSO channel length if it is not specified manually
Enhanced Reporting tool generates extended performance report for every facility in the network, including signal metrics such as channel power, total power, OSNR, accumulated CD, PMD, PDL
New report with equipment per chassis on a node-by-node basis is generated along with a Bill of Materials report
Support for user defined Python environment to write custom scripts
