VPIlinkConfigurator™ – New version 4.0 released!

VPIphotonics is proud to present the new VPIlinkConfigurator Version 4.0, a versatile software tool for optical link engineering including automatic equipment placement and configuration and a thorough system wide performance assessment. It supports equipment configuration of complex networks including ROADMs and detailed performance calculation of true ring topologies.


A powerful API enables interfacing with third-party software such as common office applications and databases in addition to custom applications. Using this automation approach, network topologies, channel plans, etc. can be extracted from other applications. Similarly, the results of the design, including equipment configuration and detailed performance, can be supplied to other applications to generate BOMs and other reports.


Version 4.0 provides improves network design workflow and new built-in functionality that simplifies and accelerates design process.

Among the new features of version 4.0 are

  • A dialog to define ordered list of signal rates available for a design depending on chosen Span Engineering Rules package

  • Segments Editor to report long optical connections and automate definition of regeneration points

  • New mode of Setup Node Equipment tool for upgrade of Add/Drop equipment configuration

  • Design Assistant mode to simplify and accelerate loss and dispersion compensation process

  • Problem area notification to report violation of equipment operating limits and design rules constraints

  • Target Power mode to simplify link loss compensation in ring and mesh networks

  • Iterative mode to assess the performance of equipment configuration

  • Improved Comparison view to see solutions performance reported with or without performance limit specified in the design rules

  • Calculation of XPM induced receiver sensitivity penalty depending on channel optical path and transceiver parameters

  • New type of WSS equalizer was added to accommodate the construction of twin WSS ROADM models

  • Channel Plan setup dialog to load predefined operating grids and simplify OADM library creation

  • Acceleration of simulation engine and increase of speed of transfer functions execution

  • A new chart control to automatically update a chart direction depending on location of equipment in focus

  • User Interface improvements to simplify creation and maintenance of an item library and improve the design workflow
